Identity, Art Direction, Creative Production

The owners of Hotel Sorrento wanted to revive a problem space - the original Hotel Sorrento ballroom, previously home to several short-lived restau- rants. Creating a brand and turning the space into an intimate, sensory, booked-out Cantonese dining experience. Shihuishi, meaning limestone in Can- tonese, takes its name from the history and architecture of Hotel Sorrento. As the brand evolved, we looked at 1960s Cantonese eateries and the cinemat- ic and photographic works of cultural classics, Wong Kar Wai and Fan Ho.

Over a rigorous process of research and exploration, we worked to name, define and design Hotel Sorrento’s Shihuishi. Within the limestone walls, past and present collide. Shihuishi is a brand and space that, at once, aligns with the existing Hotel Sorrento’s branding and stretches into a new, faraway place.
